FAQ

Resolve your doubts

At After Life Vets, we understand that making this decision is difficult and that no one wants to part with their pet. However, there comes a time when the animal no longer enjoys its life.

To determine if it’s time, we offer telephone, video call, and even home visits to assess your pet’s quality of life and help you decide if it’s time to say goodbye.

When the veterinarian arrives at your home, they will assess your pet’s condition.

Once evaluated and the decision to proceed with euthanasia is made, sedation or anesthesia will be administered. This involves an initial injection that the animal will barely feel, and depending on its size, it will gradually fall asleep within 10-20 minutes.

Once sedated/anesthetized, the euthanasia solution will be administered via the most appropriate route, which generally takes less than a minute.

Although the medical procedure itself takes about 20-30 minutes, it is carried out without haste. Both before and after the euthanasia, owners can take all the time they need for a moment of intimacy with their beloved pet.

No. It is a treatment using medications similar to anesthesia. Therefore, your pet will only feel the initial injection very mildly, and then fall asleep as if undergoing anesthesia.

The main reason we come to your home is to avoid stressing your pet.

Usually, they don’t expect a vet visit at home, so they will simply see us as a friend visiting, and together we will find a distraction, whether it’s their favorite toy, treats, or any stimulus that makes them feel comfortable.

Afterward, the cremation process takes place.

We can transport your pet, or the owners can do it directly.

You can choose between collective or individual cremation. In the case of individual cremation, the owner can decide if they want their pet’s ashes.

We are the first to specialize exclusively in at-home veterinary euthanasia.

As animal lovers, we know that saying goodbye to a dear companion should be very special, so we ensure that every time we offer this service, it is perfect and leaves a beautiful lifelong memory. We spend an average of 2 to 3 hours on each visit, including travel time, so our prices reflect not only our extensive experience but also the time we dedicate to providing a unique and personal service.

The euthanasia service is priced the same for each animal, as the emotional value of a pet is not measured by its size.

For more details on pricing, please refer to the “Quality of Life Assessment” and “At-Home Veterinary Euthanasia” pages.

Note

At After Life Vets, we reserve the right to decide if the animal should be euthanized based on the Veterinary Code of Ethics. If a visit is made and it is decided not to proceed with the euthanasia, the cost of the visit will still need to be paid. It is recommended to ask your veterinarian to send us the medical history to avoid misunderstandings.
